Grade 4 - Division - Long Division with Remainder

In this video, we tackle the basics of long division, a method often introduced at the grade four level, even though it's more commonly mastered in higher grades. We walk through the steps of dividing a larger dividend by a one- or two-digit divisor, using a graphic organizer to help students understand the process.

The video also includes a helpful mnemonic to remember the steps: divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down. We demonstrate how to handle remainders and emphasize that it's perfectly acceptable for students at this level to leave the quotient with a remainder rather than converting it into a fraction or decimal. This approach helps students build a strong foundation in long division.
